Her name was Hickox she was the first child born to the second marriage of Harley Jacob Hickox and Nancy Taylor Dowling Hickox. Both Harley Jacob and Nancy Taylor had been married before and each had older children, but My Great-Grandmother Minnie Hickox was the oldest and first child born to their union to each other! Arthor Johns who married Julie Batten, that was Uncle Arthor my Great Uncle. This is Arthor Johns son of George Washington Johns. Arthor was the brother of my Great Grandfather Albert Lewis Johns. As a young child I have gone to Uncle Arthors and Aunt Julie's home and ate with them. Uncle Arthor still wore his overalls and Aunt Julie wore her hair in a bun and the long dresses that sweap the floor. She cooked on a wood burn stove and we all sit at a long plank table with benches on both sides. Uncle Arthor sit at the head and Aunt Julie sit near the stove. She dipped up the plates and they passed them down, Uncle Arthor got his first and then the others began to keep a plate until all were served. Aunt Julie then dipped up her plate and sat down at long last. Then Grace was said by Uncle Arthor and everybody ate. I thought as a young child born in the 1900's later on that this was all so very neat, little did I know then how old fashion this had already become! I loved Uncle Arthor and Aunt Julie they were a very kind couple and had a house full of children, but by this time it had been filled up with the Grandchildren. Uncle Arthor outlived my Great-Grandfather, I never got to see my own Great Grandfather or Great Grandmother on Grannie Johns' side. I only grew up knowing Dilley and Minnie John's my Great Grandparents of my Grandpaddy's side. Gail
