Luther M. Peacock, 72, passed away Friday, March 27, 1992 at his residence following a sudden illness. He had been in declining health for some time. A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, he was a former sales clerk for the Pierce Trading Company Hardware Department for many years. Following his retirement from there, he had been a deliveryman for an auto parts company. A Baptist minister, he had served the Walkerville Baptist Church and the Camp Pickney Baptist Church, and was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Blackshear Masonic Lodge and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was the son of the late Christopher Columbus "C.C. Lum" Peacock and Sabra Crews Peacock. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Johnson Peacock of Blackshear; two daughters, Mrs. Gwen Barber of Blackshear and Mrs. Sue Sapp of Waycross; three sons, W.L. "Dub" Peacock of Millwood, Demory and Wray Peacock, both of Blackshear; three sisters, Mrs. Willie Mae Manning and Mrs. Lucille Strickland, both of Blackshear, and Mrs. Frances Avant of Sparta, GA; a half-brother, C.C. "Lumby" Peacock, Jr. of Blackshear; there are 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several other relatives. Services for Rev. Peacock were held at 3:30 Sunday afternoon from the Pine Grove Baptist Church. Officiating was Rev. James A. Ferguson, Rev. Franklin Peacock, and Rev. Kenneth Kicklighter. Interment was in the Shiloh Cemetery, with Masonic Rites at the graveside conducted by the Blackshear Masonic Lodge. Pearson Funeral Home was in charge.
