A native of Pierce County, he was a retired farmer and a member of Beulah Baptist Church. His parents were William Carter Thrift and Nancy Dowling Thrift. Survivors are his wife, Mary Mock Thrift, Blackshear; a daughter, Dorothy Nell Hodge, Pensacola; four sons, Charles W.Thrift, Alma, Riley C.Thrift, Hoboken, James C.Thrift, and Edward R.Thrift, both of Blackshear; a sister, Lanie Parker, Jesup; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several other relatives. Funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Clough-Pearson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev.Bennie Yearty and the Rev.J.R.Bowen officiating. Burial will be in the Ben James Cemetery.
