Lewis, 81, husband of the late Pearl Peacock Lewis, died Monday morning in the Coffee General Hospital in Douglas following a lengthy illness. A native of Laurens County, he had lived most of his life in Pierce County. He is the son of the late William B. Lewis and Annie King Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a retired farmer and retired mechanic with Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. A member of the Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Seaboard Coast Line Machinest Brotherhood. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Effie Strickland, Nahunta, Mrs. Irene Davis, Blackshear, and Mrs. Eva Schutts, Nazarene, PA; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Anderson, Miami, FL, and Mrs. Lena Oliver, Hollywood, FL; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a number of other relatives. Funeral service for Mr. Lewis will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Clough-Pearson Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Cecil F. Thomas and the Rev. J.R. Bowen. Burial will be in the Ben James Cemetery. Mr. Lewis' body will remain in the funeral home. Clough-Pearson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
