     BLACKSHEAR - Alton A. Burgsteiner, 62, died early today in the Pierce
County Hospital after an apparent heart attack.
     A native of and lifelong resident of Pierce County, he was a son of the
late Juddie Preston Burgsteiner and Mrs. Leola Yarbrough Burgsteiner.
     Mr. Burgsteiner was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blackshear.  He
was a retired rural mail carrier and worked at the Post Office in Blackshear for
a number of years.
     Mr. Burgsteiner was a member of the Blackshear Lions Club and was a veteran
of the Korean Conflict.
     Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys (Boo) Burgsteiner; a grandson, John
Daniel Burgsteiner, Blackshear; a sister, Mrs. Nela Mae Harrison, Seaside, OR,
and several other relatives.
     Funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of
Blackshear, with the Rev. Freddy Wheeler officiating.  Burial will be in the
Blackshear Cemetery.
     The body will remain at the funeral home until one hour prior to the
funeral, when it will be taken to the church to lie in state.
     Clough-Pearson Funeral Home is in charge.
