A native of Clinch County, he had made his home in Waycross for the past several years. He was the son of the late C.L. Howell and Cindy Jordan Howell. Mr. Howell was an employee of the Allied Timber Company until ill health forced his retirement. He was formerly associated with the Gold Kist Pecan Co. He was a member of the Homestead Evangelistic church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vera Fowler Howell, Waycross; three daughters, Mrs. Iris Perkinson and Mrs. Paul Curl both of Waycross and Mrs. Betty Houston, Tallahassee, FL; two sons, James A. Howell, Jr., Waycross and Robert Howell, Alma; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Blanton, Plant City, FL, Mrs. Bell Smith, Tampa, FL; two brothers, J.W. Johnson, Waycross and S.J. Johnson, Tampa, FL; 16 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the Homestead Evangelistic Church. Burial will be in the Ben James Cemetery. The body will be carried to the residence late this afternoon at (removed) and remain until the hour of the funeral. Miles-Odum Funeral Home is in charge.
