BLACKSHEAR - Vera Mae Fowler Howell, 87, died early Saturday (07/21/1997)
morning at the Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta after a long illness.
     She was employed for many years with the Pierce County school system's
nutrition department and was also a foster parent for many years.  She was a
member of Victory Baptist Church.  A native of Belle, FL, she was the daughter
of George Fowler and Ethel Simmons Fowler and widow of James Alton Howell.
     She is survived by three daughters, Iris Perkinson, in Indiana, Edna
Collins of Blackshear and Betty Houston of Tallahassee, FL; two sons, James
Howell and Robert Howell both of Waycross, a brother, Goldwire Fowler, Waycross;
16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and other relatives.
     The funeral is today at 3 p.m. in the Dixon-Bowen-Taylor Funeral Home
chapel.  The Rev. Johnny Guy is officiating.  Burial is to be in the Ben James
Cemetery.
