This picture was probably taken in April 1928 on the occasion of the funeral 
of their mother, Allice Ana Adeline Cercy-Carter in Seville, Volusia County, 
FL.  Mary Elizabeth "Lizzy" Carter-Stokes and James Henry Carter are seated.  
Walter S., John Leonard, Daniel Jackson, and Nicholls Edward Carter are 
standing (left to right).  Lizzy had 8 children at the time (youngest 2 years 
old).  She and Nicholls both lived in Douglas, Coffee County, GA, while John 
Leonard lived in New Lacy, Bacon County, GA, Walter lived in Walkerville, 
Pierce County, GA, and James Henry and Daniel Jackson lived in Florida.  
Eventually, Leonard and Walter would move to Florida, while Lizzy and Lewis 
Stokes would resettle in Blackshear, Pierce County, GA.  Nicholls died at home 
in 1939 and is buried in Douglas City Cemetery, Coffee County, GA with two 
daughters who didn't survive infancy.
