O. CUMBIE 1817 - 1867 Brother J. O. Cumbie was born in Barnwell District, South Carolina on the 23rd day of July 1817. In early life he moved to Georgia and settled in Pike County, where, in his nineteenth year he was ordained to the Gospel Ministry by his father and Rev. B. Stricklin. For thirty one years he gave himself to the work of His Divine Master. And though he had in his later days a very large family to support, yet he did not relax his energies or diminish his labors in the vineyard. He did not enjoy the benefits of an early education, yet by diligent and thorough study of the sacred Scriptures, he supplied his educational deficiencies, and became an earnest and useful minister of the Gospel, with unabated zeal and full consecration to his Master. He was an aggressive and useful pastor and served many different churches in the Bethel Association. He fell at his post with the armor on, at the age of fifty years and one day, in the year 1867. following notes added by Debra Crosby Georgia Marriages Stewart County Cumbie, James O - Clyatt, Lucy 05 Mar 1837 possible father of above J.
