He married Mary Jane (?). She was born about 1845 in Pike County. They had four children: Chappel born about 1862, Charles born about 1863, Mack born about 1866 and William born about 1870. James and his family were listed in the 1870 census for Pike County, Georgia. James was a farm laborer, and Mary was a housekeeper. Also living with James was his mother: Fannie. She was a farm laborer. Between 1871 and 1877, James and Mary had four children:Jimmy born about 1871, Emmer born about 1875, Lelia born about 1875 and Ida born about 1877. In the 1880 census for Pike County, Georgia, James, Mary and their eight children were listed. James was a farmer and Mary was a laborer. In 1881 Wallace was born and in 1893 Robert was born. There was no listing of James and Mary in the 1900 census for Pike County, Georgia. They possibly died betwen 1893-1900. Chappel was born about 1862 in Georgia. He was listed in the 1870 census for Pike County, Georgia with his parents: James and Mary Jane - age 3. In 1880 he was listed in the Pike County, Georgia census with his parents. His occupation was a laborer. Chappel married Judy Milner around 1880 (based on the 1900 census) in Pike County. She was born about 1862 in Georgia. They had 10 children: James Henry born about 1881, John born about 1883, David born about 1885, Julius born about 1887, Edward born about 1889, Albert born about 1892, Alberta born about 1893, Millie born about 1895, George born about 1897 and Emma born about 1899. Chappel and Judy were in the 1900 census for Pike County. He was a farmer and Judy was unemployed. They had three more children:Mamie born about 1901, Frank born about 1902,and Julia born about 1904. Between 1904-1905, Chappel and his family moved to California. Judy died between 1905-1906 in Fresno, California. He then married Della Pilkington in 1906. Chappel and Della were listed in the 1910 census for Fresno County, California. He was a farmer and Della was unemployed. They were listed in the 1920 census fo Fresno County, California. He was a farmer (fruit farm) and Della was still unemployed. Della died in 1922 in Fresno, California. Chappel was listed in the 1930 census for Fresno County - in the Fresno County Hospital. He died in 1930. Charles was born about 1863 in Pike County, Georgia. He was listed in the 1870 census for Pike County with his parents: James and Mary Jane. He was 6 years old and not attending school. He was listed in the 1880 census for Pike County with his parents. His occupation was a laborer. Around 1887 he married Anna (?). She was born about 1873 in Georgia. They had three children: Jessee born about 1873, Jiny born about 1896, and Winy born about 1897. Charles and his family were in the 1900 census for Pike County. Charles was a farmer and Anna was a farm laborer. Three more children were born:Bernice born about 1901, Dora born about 1906 and Roza born about 1908. Anna died between 1908-1909. Charles then married Dink (?) around 1909. They were listed in the 1910 census for Pike County. He was a farmer and Dink was a farm laborer. Dink has two children from a previous marriage: Jimmie Louis and William Louis. The entire family was not listed in the census for Pike County, Georgia from 1910-1920. Mack was born about 1866 in Georgia. He was listed in the 1870 census for Pike County, Georgia - with his parents:James and Mary Jane - age 3. In the 1880 census for Pike County, he was living with his parents. His occupation was a laborer. Mack was not listed in the census for Pike County, Georgia from 1900-1930. William was born about 1870 in Georgia. He was listed in the 1870 census for Pike County, Georgia with his parents:James and Mary Jane - age 2. In the 1880 census for Pike County, he was living with his parents. His occupation was a laborer. William married Ella (?) around 1890 (based on the 1900 census). She was born about 1890 in Georgia. They had four children:Claud born about 1891, Clarence born about 1892, Jimmie born about 1896 and Roberta born about 1900. William and his family were in the 1900 census for Pike County. He was a farmer and Ella was unemployed. William and his family was not in the Pike County, Georgia census from 1910-1930. Jimmy was born about 1871 in Georgia. He was listed in the 1880 census for Pike County, Georgia living with his parents: James and Mary Jane. His occupation was a laborer - age 9 and not attending school. He was not in the 1900 census for Pike County. He married Mary E. (?) around 1901. Jimmy and Mary were in the 1910 census for Pike County. He was a farmer and she was a laborer. Living with them were Mary's three children from a previous marriage:Will Dewberry, Jimmie Dewberry and Ernest Dewberry. The entire family was not listed in the Pike County, Georgia census for 1920 and 1930. Emmer was born about 1875 in Georgia. He was listed in the 1880 census for Pike County, Georgia with his parents: James and Mary Jane. He was 5 years old and not in school. Emmer was not in the Pike County, Georgia census from 1900-1930. Lelia, my great grandfather, was born about 1875 in Georgia. She was listed in the 1880 census for Pike County, Georgia with her parents: James and Mary Jane. She was 9 years old and not in school. Lelia married John Caldwell about 1892 (based on the 1900 census). He was born about 1870 in Georgia. Lelia and John had four children:Mary Ann born about 1893, James Walter born about 1895, Leroy born about 1897 and Otis Bishop born about 1900. They were listed in the 1900 census for Pike County. Lelia was a farm laborer and John was a farmer. They had four more children:Irene born about 1902 my grandfather, Benjamin born about 1905, Hassie born about 1907, and John, Jr born about 1908. Lelia, John and their children were listed in the 1910 census for Pike County. She was a farm laborer and John was a farmer. Lelia died in 1914 in Pike County, Georgia and John died in 1924. Ida was born about 1877 in Georgia. She was listed in the 1880 census for Pike County, Georgia with her parents - age 2. She married John B. West about 1895 (based on the 1900 census). He was born about 1873 in Georgia. They had three children:Blanche born about 1894, Maud born about 1897 and Silonia born about 1900. Ida, John and their children were in the 1900 census for Pike County, Georgia. Ida was a farm laborer and John was also a farm laborer. They had five more children:Viola born about 1902, Ruby born about 1904, Vera born about 1906, Celeste born about 1908 and John, Jr born about 1910. In the 1910 census for Pike County, Georgia Ida, John and seven of their eight children were listed. Celeste was not listed. Ida was a farm laborer, and John was a farmer. They had two more children:James born about 1913 and Ethel born about 1916. Ida, John and 9 of their 10 children were in the 1920 census for Pike County - not listed was Maud. Ida was a housemaid and John was a farmer. Between 1920-1930 they moved to Fulton County. They were listed in the 1930 census for Fulton County, Georgia. Ida was unemployed,and John was a farm laborer. Five of their ten children were listed. Not listed were:Blanche, Maud, Viola, Ruby and Vera. Wallace was born about 1881 in Georgia. He was listed in the 1900 census for Pike County, Georgia with his brother:Charles. There was no listing of Wallace in the census for Pike County from 1910-1930. Robert was born about 1893 in Georgia. He was listed in the 1900 census for Pike County, Georgia with his sister: Ida. His occupation was a farm laborer. Around 1909 he married Letha Freeman. She was born about 1891 in Georgia. They were listed in the 1910 census for Pike County. Robert was listed as Bobbie. Living with them were Robert's step-daughters:Bertha born about 1903 and Ruby born about 1907. Around 1917 Robert and Letha had their first child - Ralph. In the 1920 census for Pike County, Robert was listed as Bob. His occupation was a farmer and Letha was a farm laborer. Ralph was 3 years old. Between 1920-1925 Robert and his family moved to Columbus, Ohio. Robert, Jr was born in 1925. They were listed in the 1930 census for Franklin County, Ohio. Robert was a laborer in a steel plant and Letha was unemployed. They had another child - Wilma who was found in Robert's obituary. Robert died in 1949 in Columbus, Ohio and Letha died in 1977 in Columbus, Ohio.
