TOMBSTONE INFORMATION FROM PIKE CO., GA. CEMETERY This cemetery is located on the Zebulon - Barnesville Road, Coming from Zebulon, going toward Barnesville, on the left is a small country church, very old, it had no name on it, the cemetery is by this church. It is nearer to Zebulon than to Barnesville. The Pike Co.History 1822-1922 states the United Baptist Church of Weaver was organized March 1863 with 13 charter members. The first pastor was John T. (or H.) Weaver and Weavers listed among the members were James, Frank, Margaret, Mandy, (Mandy probably for Amanda) and Matilda. It appears that this cemetery belonged to the United Baptist Church of Weaver. It also appears that the name later changed but there was no name on it at the time of our visit. J. B. "An extract of an Act passed by the Legislature of 1823 -- "Be it further enacted, that the site of the public buildings of the county of Pike is hereby made permanent, and shall be called by the name of Newnan." p. 10 "And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that from and after the passing of this Act, the following persons, viz: Samuel Mitchell, William Mitchell, William Myrick, William Johnson, and Hugh F. Rose, be, and they are appointed commissioners of Newnan in the County of Pike. (Dawson, p. 450)" P. 10 "Here is Pike's first grand jury called to serve in the September term 1823: -- Jonathan Phillips, foreman; Edward Holloway, Joseph Weaver, Thomas McBurnett, Ethan Strand, Washington McGinty, William Mitchell, William White, Stephen Dukes, John Cochran, James Gray, Zachariah Hobson, Allen J. Sims, John Traylor, Nicholas Johnson, Harvey Jordan, Jordan Brooks, James Patridge, Philip Bow, Elbert Philius, John Mays, Jabez Gilbert." p. 10 "The hamlet of Weaver was begun when James Weaver built his store and a post office was established there, mail being brought from Barnesville and Zebulon. The Weaver, Cook, and Reaves families are lineal descendants of James Weaver." p. 98. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% The research of this family is respectfully dedicated to the memory of Mr. Jamie O. Ridley who lived in Zebulon. It is not our line but may be a branch of it. Mr. Ridley was very interested in learning more about his family and asked that I forward him a copy of what I might find. He escorted us to the cemetery and was so willing to try to help all he could so I did promise him a copy. However, when I sent the copy of all this to him, the letter came back marked "Addressee Deceased". It is certainly fitting that it should be dedicated to honor the memory of this kind and helpful man.
