Our body shall consist of a moderator and a clerk. Rule 2nd. It shall be the duty of the moderator to open the conferences by singing and prayers or otherwise and invite all visiting brethren to seats with us who are of the same faith and order. Rule 3rd . Also to open a door for the reception of members either by Letters or experience or Acknowledgements or in any way the Church may think proper. Rule 4th . To inquire if there exists union among the brethren and if not they can come forward and be considered in order. Rule 5th . It shall be the duty of any members when speaking to rise from his seat and address the moderator and church. Rule 6th . No member shall speak upon any one subject more than three times without leave of the moderator or church. Rule 7th . If any member violates any of the above rules he shall be considered as out of order and liable to be reproved by the moderator. Rule 8th . Called then for any business of a promiscuous nature none presented the church then adjourned to conference in course and Closed in order. Spencer Stamper Mod Bluford Gross Clk Articles of Faith of Shoal Creek Church First We believe in the one only true and living God Self existent from all eternity without variables [?] or a shadow [?] of turning [?] and that there are three persons in the Godshead, the Father, the Son, the Holy Ghost, the same in essence but distinct in office and equal in power and glory. Secondly We believe in the fall of Adam and the degeneracy of human nature [--?--] [--?--] and of Adams sin in his posterity [--?--] [--?--] [--?--] a man to save himself from his fallen and depraved state Thirdly We believe in the covenant of redemption made and entered into between the Father and the Son and in Covenant the Father gave unto the son a people and the son did redeem them and in consequence of which the Holy Ghost sanctifies them and they through God shall persevere unto the end. Fourthly We believe that Baptism, the Lord's Supper and the washing the Saints feet are ordinances of the Lord and should be observed by his people until his second coming. Fifth We believe that true believers are the only proper subjects of baptism and that immersion is the mode Sixth We believe in the resurrection of the Son , the general Judgment and that the days of the righteous will be everlasting and that punishment of the wicked will be eternal. Seventh We believe that [rest of page is damaged and illegible] April 13th 1826 In pursuance for a request of the brethren a Presbytery met at Flat Rock meeting house, Georgia Pike County - consisting of the R'cd brethren William Mosely and James Head and after a sermon delivered by brother Mosely proceeded as follows: 1st Called for and r'cd letters from [--?--] members 2nd [--?--] [--?--] called for any objections why said members should not be constituted into a church - none being presented [--?--] proceeded to inquire as to [--?--] members concerning the Faith unto friends of their orthodox and [--?--] them a [--?--] [--?--] testimony the principles of the gospel in the service of the adorable Trinity the right hand of fellowship was extended [--?--] [--?--] appropriate prayer by brother Head [--?--] [--?--] with a brief but comprehensive [--?--] by brother Mosely The church then made choice of brother Mosely as moderator & brother White clerk and moved into conference [--?--] that our meetings shall be on the third Sabbath and day before in every month and the adjoined articles of Faith [--?--] adjourned till meeting in course William Mosely Moderator William White Clerke May 20th 1826 After a sermon delivered by brother Stamper the Baptist church of Christ at Flat Rock met in conference in pursuance to adjournment and proceeded to business. 1st Invited all brethren of the same faith and order to seats with us. 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members either by [--?--four to five words illegible] when sister Elizabeth Thompson [ --?-- --?--] 3rd Went into the choice of church officers when the brethren John Pryor & Gross [?] Were chosen Deacons and brother Gross as Clerk 4th [six words illegible] a church for which [--?--] agree to [---?--] 5th Called for other business and none provided and the church adjourned in order to conference in course Spencer Stamper Moderator Bluford Gross Clerk June 17th 1826 After a sermon delivered by brother Stamper Church of Christ at Flat Rock met in conference in pursuance to an adjournment brother Stamper moderator and proceeded to business. 1st Invited all brethren present of our faith and order to seats with us. 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members either by Letter or experience 3rd Called for references or any business 4th Proceeded to adopt the following [rest of page - four to five words - damaged and illegible] July 12th 1826 After a sermon delivered by brother Stamper the church met in conference in pursuance to an adjournment brother Stamper moderator. 1st Invited all brethren of the same faith and order to seats with us 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members either by Letter or experience when sister Polly Benson was r'cd by experience and sister Elizabeth Milans by Letter. 3rd Called for references and any business whatever no [none] presented. 4th Church then closed in order by adjourning to conference in course. Spencer Stamper Moderator Bluford Gross Clk August 19th 1826 The church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference choose Brother Singleton Moderator after singing & prayer proceeded to business 1st Invited all visiting brethren of like faith and order to seats with us 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members 3rd Moved & seconded that the church make choice of Delegates to represent her in the association. Whereupon the Brethren Embry & Gross and Brother Singleton in case of failure were chosen 4th Brother Gross chosen to write the letter to the association. 5th Church then adjoined to conference in course & closed in order Singleton Mod Bluford Gross Clk September 10th 1826 After Divine service the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference. 1st Invited all visiting brethren of the like faith & order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members when Sister Catharine Smith came forward and was r'cd into fellowship by Letter. 3rd Called for references & other business none presented church then adjoined in order to meeting in course. Hilsman Clk in 1862 and the one who transcribed the book made heretofore November 18 1826 After Divine service the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited all visiting brethren of the same Faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members when Sister Heziah[?] Beal, Brother Walter Beal and Sister Heziah[?] Hanks[?] came forward and r'cd the right hand of fellowship with their Letters. 3rd Called for references and other business none presented the church then adjoined in order to meeting in course [--?--] Moderator [--?--] Gross Cl December 16th 1826 After Divine service the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited all visiting brethren of the same faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members 3rd Moved and seconded that the church go into the choice of a Pastor for the ensuing year whereupon Brother Stamper was unanimously chosen 4th Moved and seconded that the church by brethren Hartsfield & Singleton send a letter to the Church at Zebulon desiring assistance for the purpose of Ordaining Brother Stamper to serve them. Ordered that Brother Gross prepare said letter. 5th Called for references & other business none presented wherefore the church adjourned in order to meeting in course “ “ Moderator Bluford Gross Cle January 20th 1827 After Divine service the church in pursuance to an adjournment the church met in conference Brother Singleton Moderator 1st Invited all brethren of the like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for references & other business none presented whereupon the church adjourned in order to conference in course [--?--] Singleton Moderator Bluford Gross Clerk February 17th 1827 After a sermon delivered by Brother Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited brethren of the same faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members when Brother Neal, Sister Neal, Sister Frails and Sister [--?--] came forward and were r'cd with Fellowship by Letter 3rd Brother Bell came forward and tendered acknowledgements to the church for the sin of Intoxication which was laid over till next conference 4th Called for references & other business none presented and the church then adjourned in order to conference in course Spencer Stamper Moderator Bluford Gross Clerk March 17th 1827 After Divine service the church in pursuance of an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of the like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members whereupon Brother Watley & Sister Polly Watley were r'cd into Fellowship by letter 3rd Took up the case of Brother Bell and upon due examination he was retained in full fellowship 4th Called for other business none presented whereupon the church adjourned in order to conference in course “ “ Moderator Bluford Gross Clerk April 14th 1827 After divine service the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited all brethren of the same faith and order to seats. 2nd Opened a door for reception of members when Brother James Watley & Sister Charity Watley came forward and were r'cd into fellowship by Letter. 3rd Called for reference and other business none presented whereupon the church adjourned in order to conference in course “ “ Moderator Bluford Gross Clk April 15th 1827 Sabbath morning the church met in conference Brother Stamper Moderator 1st Invited our brethren of the same faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members when Sister Harriet Stewart [?] came forward and was r'cd into fellowship by Letter 3rd Church then adjourned in order to conference in course Spencer Stamper Moderator Bluford Gross Clerk May 19th 1827 After Divine service the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren to seats 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members 3rd Called for Acknowledgement none 4th Called for references none 5th The church agreed to select a place for building a meeting house whereupon the Brothers Singleton Bell Hartsfield Neal [?] and Gross were appointed for the purpose of selecting a suitable place and the church agrees to abide by their choice 6th The church then adjourned in order at meeting in course. “ “ Moderator Bluford Gross Clerk June 15th 1827 The church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference Brother Stamper Moderator 1st Invited visiting brethren of like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for acknowledgements none 4th The committee appointed by the church to select a suitable meeting place whereon to build a meeting house by leave to report that they had selected a place on Martin Sims land 5th The church adjourned in order to conference in course. Spencer Stamper Moderator Bluford Gross Clerk July 14 1827 After a sermon delivered by Brother Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference. 1st Invited brethren in the same faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for references none 4th The church then agreed to send delegates to represent her at the general meeting whereupon the brethren Pryor & Gross and Watley in case of failure were chosen. 5th Called for any business of a general manner none presented then the church adjourned in order to conference in course Spencer Stamper Moderator Bluford Gross Clerk August 18th 1827 After a sermon delivered by brother Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited brethren of the like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for references acknowledgements or dealing in any way in order none presented 4th The Church then agreed to choose Delegates to represent her in the Association and appoint some Brother to write the letter. Whereupon the Brethren Pryor, Gross and Embry in case of failure were appointed delegates and Brother Gross to prepare the Letter 5th The church then adjourned in order to the conference in course. Spencer Stamper Moderator Bluford Gross Clerk September 15th 1827 After a sermon delivered by Brother Bonds the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting Brethren of like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened door for reception of members 3rd The letter to the association to the proper [--?--] by Brother Gross was called for and read and cordially r'cd 4th The Deeds made to the church by Martin Sims to the lands whereon the new meeting house is built was made was read and r'cd 5th Called for references & other general business none presented whereas the church adjourned in order to conference in course Bro. Bonds Moderator Bluford Gross Clk October 13th 1827 The church in pursuance to an adjournment after prayer by Brother Smith as moderator met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for references acknowledgements or dealings in any church matters whatever whereupon Brother Bell came forward and made an acknowledgement of having been guilty of Drinking too much Spirits 4th After mature deliberation the church agreed to postpone said case till next conference 5th Church adjourned in order till conference in course Brother Smith Mod Bluford Gross Clk November 17th 1827 After a sermon delivered by Brother Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited all visiting brethren of like faith & order to seats and in the absence of our clerk the church appointed Brother John Heatly clerk pro tem 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for references took up the case of Brother Bell who came forward and did satisfactory acknowledgement of having Drank to much Spirits & was retained 4th Brother John Heatly called for a letter of Dismission for himself & his wife which was granted. 5th Called for business of a general nature none presented whereupon the church adjourned in order to conference in course Spencer Stamper Moderator John Heatly Clerk December 15th 1827 After a sermon delivered by Bro Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of like faith and order to seats 2nd Open a door for the reception of members when Sister Polly Long came forward and was r'cd in full fellowship by Experience also Sister Davis came forward and was r'cd under the pious watch case of fellowship of the church as a transient member until she could obtain a letter from the church which she left. Sister Liddy Smith also came forward and was r'cd into the fellowship of the church by experience. 3rd Called for references and acknowledgements, none, whereupon the church adjourned in order till conference in course. Spencer Stamper Mod Bluford Gross Clk December 16th 1827 The church on Sabbath morning met at the water in conference and opened a door for reception of members whereupon Bro Abel Smith came forward and was r'cd in fellowship by Experience then adjourned in order. Spencer Stamper Mod Bluford Gross Clk January 19th 1828 After a sermon delivered by Bro Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited all visiting brethren of like faith and order to seats with us 2nd Opened a door for reception of members when Bro John Hartsfield joined us by experience and was r'cd. 3rd Sister Bell applied for a letter of Dismission which was granted 4th Took up the case relative to Bro Bells Drinking to an excess which after a patient investigation in love [------] declared him to be no more of our body 5th Called business of a general nature none presented whereupon the church adjourned in order to conference in course. Bluford Gross Clk February 16th 1828 After a sermon delivered by Bro Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members when Sister Martha Hartsfield was r'cd by Experience 3rd Called for references and acknowledgements none offered any [--?--] references 4th The church then went into the choice of a clerk which resulted in the choice of Bro Abel Smith 5th Called for any business in order, none presented whereupon the church adjourned in order till conference in course. Spencer Stamper Mod Bluford Gross Clk March 15th 1828 After singing and prayer by Brethren Smith & Singleton the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference by choosing Bro Singleton as Moderator 1st Invited visiting brethren of like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd The church then deliberated upon the changing the name of her meeting house as having moved and finally unanimously agreed that it should be called & named Shoal Creek Meeting house 4th Called for references and other business none presented whereupon the church adjourned in order till conference in course Bro Singleton Mod Bluford Gross Clk April 19th 1828 After a sermon delivered by Bro Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting Brethren of like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members 3rd Called for references none 4th Bro James Watley called for a letter for himself and wife which was granted 5th The church took up the case of Bro Gross as acting clerk and by his request released him and then went into the choice of another which resulted in the choice of Bro John Hartsfield who agreed to serve them. 6th The church then went into the choice of a Pastor to serve them which fell upon Bro Stamper who agreed to serve them 7th The church then took up the case of the difficulty between Bro Smith and Sister Heflin He denying the charge & not acknowledging to the same laid in by her against him After deliberating upon the same agreed to refer it till next conference. 8th Called for business of a general nature, none presented, whereupon the church adjourned till conference in course in order Spencer Stamper Mod Bluford Gross Clk May 17th 1828 After a sermon delivered by Bro Davis the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference. 1st Invited visiting brethren of said faith and order to seats with us. 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members when Sister Levicy Hale came forward and was r'cd in full fellowship by Letter. 3rd Took the charge preferred against Bro Smith by Sister Heflin and after a patient investigation it was considered as not established consequently the church Debarred her from Baptism therefore resolved that her name be erased from the records of the church books and they do not hold themselves accountable for her conduct which was accordingly done 4th Called for business of a general nature, none offered and therefore the church adjourned in order to conference in course. Hartsfield Clk June 14th 1828 After a sermon delivered by Bro Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members 3rd Called for acknowledgements 4th Called for Dealings in Gospel order 5th Called for references 6th Bro Pryor requested that he be relieved from discharging the functions of a Deacon which the church granted 7th The church then went into the choice of Delegates to represent her in the general meeting which resulted in the choice of Brethren Abel Smith Enoch Embry and Warren Hartsfield in case of failure 8th Called for any business of a general nature, none presented, whereupon the church adjourned in order till conference in course Spencer Stamper Mod John H. Hartsfield Clk July 19th 1828 The Baptist church at Shoal Creek after a sermon delivered by Bro Stamper in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for references acknowledgements or Dealings in Gospel order 4th The church went into the choice of a Deacon which resulted in the choice of Bro Enoch Embry and agreed to wait on him for an answer till next meeting 5th The church then agreed to reconsider the minutes of May meeting as far as results the case of Bro Smith and Sister Heflin and agreed to send for help from the following sister churches to wit - Armagiddon [sp], Zebulon and Rose Creek. 6th The church then appointed the following brethren to bear his message of love and request for help, to wit Smith to Armiggedon Singleton to Rose Creek and Hartsfield to Zebulon. 7th Hearing no other business the church adjourned in order till conference in course Spencer Stamper Mod John H. Hartsfield Clk August 16th 1828 After a sermon by Bro Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for references and took up the charge against Bro Smith. The churches to which was applied for help sent the following Brethren who took their seats - to wit - from Armagiddon Brethren Heatly & White from Zebulon Hartsfield Buffington & Grissom from Rose Creek Matthews Orr Burril Orr & Davis. When after a patient and full investigation of the case we find that the accusations originated principally from a misunderstanding and the church finds Bro Smith clear of the same also we unanimously agree to drop it and never to raise it any more. 4th Bro Enoch Embry begs leave of the church for further time to consider upon his being ordained as Deacon which was granted until next meeting. 5th The church then agreed to go into the business of appointing Delegates to represent her in the association and of appointing some brother to write the Letter which resulted in the choice of brethren Gross Singleton & Smith in case of failure as her delegates and that the clerk prepare the letter. 6th No other business presented the church proceeded to adjourn in order till conference in course. Hartsfield Clk September 20th 1828 After a sermon delivered by Bro Bankston the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited Brethren of like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for references. Bro Enoch Embry comes forward and expresses his willingness to serve the church as a Deacon. Agreed that the church send for help to ordain Bro Embry as Deacon on the Saturday before the third Sabbath in November next also agreed that we invite our beloved Brethren Strickland & Head and appointed the following brethren to bear our letter -to wit- Isaac Smith & Gross to White Water and Bro John Pryor to Teman Church. 4th Church then called for the letter to the association which was made amended and r'cd No other business the church preceded to adjourn in order till conference in course J. Hartsfield Clk October 1828 no minutes found November 15th 1828 After a sermon delivered by Bro Strickland the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren in like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called for business when Bro Gross moved that the money should be made up for a certain quantity of planks the Brethren made up eighteen dollars and the clerk was ordered to draw up a subscription against [--?--] for the balance 4th The church then took up the reference relative to Bro Embry being ordained a Deacon which was laid over till tomorrow morning when accordingly the Presbytery met and the Bro was examined and found orthodox in the faith and was ordained 5th No other business presented the church adjourned in order till conference in course Spencer Stamper Mod John H. Hartsfield case and after full investigation of the matter the church Declared nonfellowship with him. Burke from Numbers 14th chp 8 verse the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reeption of members R'cd Sister May Brooks [Burke] by Experience 3rd Called up the reference relative to the case of Bro George Cross ( he still being absent) and after due deliberation Excluded him 4th Called for business none presented whereupon the church adjourned in order to conference in course T. Bro Pennington present denies the report laid over till next meeting and appointed Bros Sale & Singleton to see Bro Richard Cross and invite him to attend our next conference in relation to said case and gain all the information they can 4th No other business offered when the church adjourned in order to conference in course T. Bolton from Rev 13th chp 1 v and followed by Bro Burke from [--?--] 13 chp 6 verse the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Called up the reference respecting Bro Wm Pennington being Drunk he denying the same and being present and still denies it called for the report of the committee on the case they report that Bro Richard Cross stated that Bro Pennington was Drunk at the time stated for which charges the church Excluded him 4th Called for other business none presented whereupon the church adjourned till conference in course T. Burke from Heb 12th chp 25th verse the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Took up the reference of last conference respecting Bro Cross he still absent continued the same till next conference 4th Appointed the Bros Burke, Sims & Gross in case of failure to represent us in the next general meeting 5th R'cd a friendly letter from our sister church Union Henry County stating that Bro Joel Sims was the unanimous choice of said church as their Pastor and humbly request this church to send him to them Deferred the answer to said letter to next conference which will be held on the 10th day of July next a Thursday 6th Called for the business none presented whereupon the church adjourned in order to conference when stated T. Wm. Blan formerly a member of this church applied for admission again continued the same till next conference 3rd Called up the reference respecting Bro Cross who being present stated his reason for absence & gave satisfaction to the church 4th The call of our sister church Union Henry County in relation to the ordination of Bro Sims was acted upon & after considerable discussion was deemed inexpedient to determine the same for the present 5th No other business the church adjourned in order to conference in course R. Eaves & followed by Bro Burke the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Took up the reference relative to Wm Bells application for restoration and after much debate r'cd his acknowledgement and restored him to full fellowship then granted him a letter of dismission. 4th Proceeded to choose a pastor for the ensuing year which resulted in the choice of Bro John Hambrick 5th Appointed the Bros Sims & Hartsfield to bear a letter to Bro Hambrick & his church requesting his assent to serve us and the church to grant their permission 6th No other business offered and the church then adjourned in order to conference in course T.
