Hartsfield 6th No other business presented the church adjourned in order to conference in course John Hambrick Mod Joel Sims Clk February 15th 1834 After a sermon by Bro Stamper the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Granted letters of dismission to Bro. Joel & Sister Jane Sims also granted letter of dismission to Sister Viny Hambrick 4th No other business offered the church adjourned in order to conference in course J. Hambrick Mod J. H. March 15th 1834 After a sermon by Bro Hambrick the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of like faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members 3rd The church according to the request of Bro Burke agreed to reconsider his case relative to the minutes of January & February conferences last and erase the same also the church further agree to acquit him of said charge believing him not guilty of said report 4th Sister Singleton charges Sister Benson with a flat contradiction for which the church Excludes Sister Benson 5th Bro Burke charges Sister Singleton with reporting a false and scandlous report said case laid over to next conference 6th No other business presented the church adjourned in order to conference in course J. April 19th 1834 After a sermon by Bro Mosely the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Took up the reference relative to the difficulty between Bro Burke & Sister Singleton and after an investigation of the case Sister Singleton said if she had said or done anything to the wounding the feelings of Bro Burke from first to last or any of the feelings of the church she was truly sorry for it which acknowledgement gave universal satisfaction 4th R'cd a letter from our sister church Shiloh Fayette County requesting the services of Bro. Burke as their Pastor which was Granted 5th No other business offered and the church proceeded to adjournment in order to conference in course J. Hambrick Mod B. Gross Clk P.T. Gross Clk P T December 20th 1834 After prayer by Bro J Hambrick the church agreeable to an adjournment on yesterday met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith & order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members & r'cd by letter Sister Susan a woman of color the property of M Anderson 3rd Granted letters of dismission to Sisters May & Elizabeth Thompson 4th R'cd a letter from our sister church at Harmony requesting ministrial aids to ordain one of their body a Preacher Granted the request & agree to send Brother T Burke 5th Went into the choice of a Pastor for the ensuing year when Bro J Hambrick was cordially chosen 6th Appointed Bros. J. Pryor & Gillcoat to bear a letter to the church at New Hope requesting their assent for Bro J. Hambrick to serve us the ensuing year & the Clk ordered to write the letter the church then adjourned in order to conference J. Hambrick Mod [clerks name illegible] January 17th 1835 After a sermon by Bro J Calloway from Acts 27th chp 44 verse the church in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for the reception of members r'cd by letter Bro Richard H. Embry and Sister Nancy a woman of Color the property of Sister Coggins 3rd Sister McCain having applied for a letter of dismission last conference now wishes her membership to remain with us the letter was not obtained we Granted her request 4th Rc’d a letter from our Sister Church New Hope granting our request for Bro Hambrick to serve us the present year 5th Agree that Bro Gillcoat & Sister Williamson keep the key & clean the house the present year and after that we pay Sister Williamson Ten Dollars for her trouble 6th No other business presented & the church adjourned in order to conference in course J. Hambrick Mod Wm P Robertson Clk March 14th 1835 After a sermon by Bro Eaves the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members and r'cd by letter Bro.Lewis P Eaves as a Preacher his letter representing him as such 3rd Restated Sister Nancy a woman of color the property of H. Hartsfield and Granted her a letter of dismission 4th Took up the reference respecting the releasing Bro Embry from the office of Deacon & after much deliberation agreed to Grant his request 5th Made choice of Bro A Gillcoat as a Deacon and agreed to wait on him for an answer till next meeting 6th Granted a letter of Dismission to Sister Susan Passell 7th No other business offered the church adjourned in order to conference in course L. P. Eaves Mod Wm. P. Robertson Clk April 18th 1835 After a sermon by Bro. Hambrick the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith & order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members & r'cd the following by Letter Sister Nancy Woodly, Bro. Lewis Wheeler & Sister Matilda his wife. [--?--] and Bro William Blan applied for restoration and having made satisfactory acknowledgement the church again r'cd him in full fellowship 3rd The church agrees to wash feet at each communion season. But it shall be her privilege to omit either or both when circumstances render it necessary to do so. 4th Bro A Gillcoat gave his consent to serve us as one of our Deacons 5th Called for other business and dealings in Gospel order none presented when the church proceeded to adjournment in order to conference in course J Hambrick Mod Wm P Robertson Clk May 17th 1835 Ga Pike Co After a sermon by Bro Wm Mosely & followed by Bro Malone the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith & order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members & r'cd by Letter Bro William Forester and his wife Sister Ruth and Sister Jinsy Harris & Lydia Coats 3rd Granted letters of dismission to Bro T. Burke & Sister Belinda his wife 4th Appointed Bros Bland & Gross to visit Bro John Harrison & request his attention next conference & show the cause of his long absence from our conferences 5th Called for any business in Gospel order none presented & the church adjourned in order to conference in course J. Hambrick Mod Wm Robertson Clk June 20th 1835 After a sermon by Bro Malone followed by Bro Hambrick the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members and r'cd by Letter Sister Mary Mills 3rd Took up the reference respecting Bro Harrisons absence from this church when Bro Gross & Bland who were appointed to visit him report they had done so. He being still absent and still refused to hear the church through her messengers they appointed Bros Gillcoat & Pryor to cite him to our next conference to hear cause why he has thus refused to hear the Church 4th Appointed Bros Gross & Wm [?] Pryor to represent us in our General meeting at Mount Olive on the third Sabbath in July next and Bro Bland [?Blan] in case of failure 5th No other business presented and the church adjourned in order J Hambrick Mod Wm P Robertson Clk July 18th 1835 Ga Pike Co After a sermon by Bro Eaves followed by Bros Hambrick & Malone the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith & order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members and r'cd by Letter Bro. Alexander Garden & Sister Elizabeth his wife 3rd Took up the reference respecting Bro Harrisons absence from the church he still absent and appointed Bros Bland and Garden to see him and say to him the church agrees to lay over his case till next conference at which time he is advised to attend 4th No other business and the church adjourned in order to conference in course J Hambrick Mod Wm P Robertson Clk August 15th 1835 After a sermon by Bro [--?--] Eaves the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith & order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Took up the case of Bro. Harrison in relation to his long absence from and neglecting to have the church through her messengers the Brethren Bland & Garden appointed to visit him report that they had done so - Bro. Harrison still absent and still neglects to hear the church through her messengers who state they have faithfully labored with him. Whereupon for his absence and neglect to hear the church they Exclude him 4th Appointed Brethren L. P. Eaves & Gillcoat & B. Gross in case of failure to represent us in our next association to commence at Shiloh Fayette County and the clerk prepare the letter Contribution for minutes $1.50 5th Granted a letter of Dismission to Sister Mary Hartsfield 6th No other business and the church adjourned in order to conference in course L P. Eaves Mod W P Robertson Clk September 19th 1835 After prayer by Bro Gillcoat the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference Bro Gillcoat appointed moderator 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd R'cd a letter from our sister church Merriwether County requesting us to ordain Bro L P Eaves and send him to be their Pastoral supply Granted the request so far as to send for ministrial aids for that purpose and agree to send for the following Brethren toform a Presbytery -viz- Stile of Salem Fayette Co Mosley of Lebanon Henry Co Calloway of Ramah [?] Henry Co & Stamper of Harmony of Pike Co and that the following Brethren have letters to said churchs for said help -viz- Gross to Salem Bland to Lebanon Gillcoat to Ramah and Wheeler to Harmony requesting their attendance at this place on Friday before the third Sabbath in November next in order to ordain Bro L P Eaves 4th Read and r'cd the letter to the association 5th No other business the church adjourned in order to conference in course A Gillcoat Mod W P Robertson Clk October 17th 1835 Ga P Co No conference in consequence of the association Wm P Robertson Clk November 13th 1835 Ga P Co After a sermon by Bro Calloway the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference Bro Calloway Moderator 1st Invited visiting Brethren of our faith and order to seats 2nd Opened a door for reception of members 3rd Took up the reference with regards to the ordination of Bro Eaves set apart for this day and the Brethren Calloway and Beckam composed a Presbytery when after a variety of interrogations put to the church and Bro Eaves by the said Presbytery which gave satisfaction they proceeded to ordain Bro Eaves to the ministry The church then adjourned in order till tomorrow morning [--?--] Calloway Mod A Garden Clk P T November 14th 1835 The church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment as yesterday met in conference Bro Calloway Mod. 1st Invited visiting brethren of our order & faith to seats and then opened a door for reception of members 2nd Moved & seconded that we take up the case of Sister Nancy a woman of color the property of Sister Coggins who is charged with living in adultry and appointed Bros Bland & Wheeler to Cite her to our next conference 3rd Granted letter of dismission to Bro J Pearson & Sister Elizabeth his wife also to Sister Martha Burke the church then adjourned in order to conference in course J Calloway Mod [--?--] [--?--] December 20th 1835 Ga P Co After prayer by Bro Gillcoat the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference Bro Gillcoat Moderator 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats and opened a door for reception of members 2nd The Brethren who were appointed to cite Sister Nancy a woman of color report that they Cited her to the church she still being absent and having given the church no satisfaction they thereupon Excluded her 3rd Granted letters of dismission to Bro William Forester and Sister Beverly [?] his wife also to Bro Roland Williams 4th Rc’d a letter from our sister church at Fellowship desiring us to send Bro Eaves to be their pastor Granted the request leaving it [--?--] with Bro Eaves to serve or no 5th No other business the church adjourned in order to conference in course A Gillcoat Mod W P Robertson Clk January 16th 1836 After a sermon by Bro Eaves the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats & then opened a door for the reception of members 2nd Charged Bro A. Hill & Sister Mary J Hill his wife also r'cd Bro Eaves assent to serve us as our Pastor the present year 2nd Took up the case of Bro Gillcoat and after discussing it awhile agree to lay it over till next conference 3rd Called for business in Gospel order none presented and the church adjourned in order to conference in course G B Davis Mod Wm P Robertson Clk April 16th 1836 Ga P Co After a sermon by Bro Eaves the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats then opend a door to reception of members and r'cd by letter Bro Josiah Pearson and Sister Elizabeth Pearson Bro Henry T Embry & Sister Paulina Embry and Sister Lucy A Stegar [?] 2nd Took up the case of Bro A Gillcoat when Bros Gross & Pryor report to the church the testimony of Bro Calloway and after considerable discussion agree to lay it over till next conference 3rd No other business the church then adjourned in order to conference in course L P Eaves Mod W P Robertson Clk May 14th 1836 Ga Pike Co After divine service the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference Bro Eaves Moderator 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats & then opened a door for the reception of members 2nd Took the case of Bro A Gillcoat when it was moved & seconded to reconsider the charge against him when the church decided that the evidence in reference to the Gospels was not sufficient to establish said charge when it was moved and seconded to prefer a new charge against him and it was determined to consider Bro Gillcoat in disorder for absenting himself without notifying the church of his intentions to do so 3rd No other business the church adjourned in order to conference in course L P Eaves Mod A Garden Clk P. T. June 18th 1836 Ga Pike Co. After a sermon by Bro Eaves from 1st Psalms 1st 2nd 3rd verses the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats and then opened a door for the reception of members 3rd Took up the charge against Bro Gillcoat and after a few remarks agree to continue the same to our next conference 3rd No other business the church adjourned in order to conference in course L P Eaves Mod Wm P Robertson Clk July 18th 1836 Ga Pike Co. P. Eaves Wm Pryor and B. Gross to represent us in the general meeting, at Harmony community, on Friday before the first Sabbath in August next & ordered the clerk to prepare a short address to be sent up to the G. meeting 3rd The church agrees that all references be continued at our next conference 4th No other business the church adjourned in order to conference in course L P Eaves Mod Wm P Robertson Clk August 20th 1836 Ga Pike Co. After a sermon by Bro L P Eaves from 2nd Kings 4th chp 29 verse the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats & opened a door for reception of members and r’cd by Experience Sister Eliza Sims 2nd Took the charge against Bro Azariah Gillcoat for absenting himself from the church and after some remarks upon the subject for said charge Excluded him 3rd Ordered the clerk to write an affectionate letter to Sister Lavinity Gillcoat and invite her to come and see the church 4th Appointed Bros L P Eaves B Gross and A Garden in case of failure as delegates to represent us in our next association & the clerk to prepare the letter Contribution for minutes $1.00 5th No other business the church adjourned in order to conference in course L P Eaves Mod Wm P Robertson Clk September 17th 1836 Ga Pike Co. After a sermon by Bro Eaves the church of Christ at Shoal Creek in pursuance to an adjournment met in conference 1st Invited visiting brethren of our faith and order to seats then opened a door for reception of members when Sister Mary Wheeler Sister Amanda M Stiles were r’cd by Experience 2nd Read and r’cd the letter to the association 3rd The church prefers two charges against Sister Lavinity Gillcoat 1st with having separated from her husband Azaiah Gillcoat and not having shown any cause for doing so and secondly for marrying another man while the said Gillcoat is supposed to be alive. And after much deliberation for said charges the Church Excluded her 4th No other business the church adjourned in order to conference in course L P Eaves Mod W P Robertson Clk October 15th 1836 Ga Pike Co.
