Indenture May 7, 1858 Pike County, GA Deed Book L, page 262 This indenture made the twenty-fifth day of September, eighteen hundred fifty-seven between William Whatley, Wilson Whatley, Seaborn J. Whatley, Samuel J. Whatley and Susan Jane Whatley of the first part and James Whatley of the second part Witnesseth that the parties of the first part for in consideration of the sum of twelve hundred seventy-seven and 76/00 dollars to them in hand paid hath bargained, sold, re??? and forever quit claim to the said James G. Whatley in certain negroes viz. George, Judy, Green, Savannah, Elijah and Peggy and their increase. Said slaves being divided to the aforesaid Susan Jane Whatley during her lifetime by the last will and testament of James Whatley, late of Pike County. Deceased to have and hold said life estate with all the increase and profit of said slaves George, Judy, Green, Savannah, Elijah and Peggy and their increase free from the right title or claim of us of the first part, our heirs and of every other person claiming under or through us in testimony whereof the said William Whatley, Wilson Whatley, Seaborn J. Whatley, Samuel J. Whatley and Susan Jane Whatley have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year above written. Interlined Susan before symed??.
