His wife, Bethenia. He married in Greene Co., Ga. Bethenia(Thene) Yates. Both men enlisted in the 1812 -13 Militia in Greene Co., Ga. The Aquilla in Pike Co., Ga. is believed to be the son of Elijah Greer and Mary Acors who died Pike Co. ca. 1841. Both are grandsons of Aquilla Greer, Jr. and Elizabeth Bandy , great grandsons of Aquilla Greer I who died in Greene Co., Ga. in 1790. Aquilla of Pike Co., Ga. applied for pension or land in 1850: The front page reads Aquilla (torn) Capt Brownings War 1812 ;admitted 80 acres Warrant no. 513 issues Sept 53 & ? GT. M. Bloodworth Liberty Hill, Pike Co., Ga. State of Georgia County of Pike On the eleventh day of November A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty personally appeared before me a justice of the Peace in and for said County and state aforesaid Aquila Grier age fifty five years a resident of Pike county in the state of who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Aquila Grier who was a private in the company commanded by Captain John Browning in the Second Regiment of Drafted Militia command by Colonel James Jenkins until his death unto then by Colonel Daniel Newman in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18 day of June 1812 that he volunteered at Jonathan Haralsons in Green County, Georgia on or about the last of August A.D. 1813 for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said war fro the term of six months and was honorably discharged at Milledeville in the State of Georgia on or about the tenth day of March A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fourteen (1814) that he received written discharge which he lost in his pocket book about five years since and has never been able to find it since all of which service he believes will appear by the muster rolls of said company He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act granting bounty land to certain officers and sldiers who been engaged in the military Service of the United States passed September 28 1850 Aquila Greer (This man can sign his name) and he was on 1850 census in Pike County, Ga. and also 1860 census. He also was on 1870 census in Spalding Co., Ga. HIs wife's name was Bethenia .Not the same man as below. born in Ky; Treasury Department Third Auditor's Office May 16 1851 It appears from documents on file in this office that Aquilla Greer, Jr. and Aquilla Greer Sr. privates of Captain John Browning's Company of Georgia volunteers entered the service on the 25 of August 1813 for 6 months and served till the On the 10 th March 1814, the expiration of the service Aquilla Greer, Jr. was reported absent with leave but he was paid for 6 months service. Aquilla Sr. service from the date of enlistmen to 30 September 1813 when he was discharged for disability. B. F. Callahan, F---? Auditor Commissisoner of Pensions Department of the Interior. State of Georgia County of Pike Eleventh day of June A.D. Eighteen Hundred and Fifty-three Again Aquilla makes statement he is the aforesaid Aquilla Greer, Jr. , but this time he is resident of Spalding Co., Ga. , but that he was discharged at Ft Hawkins and again signs his name, Aquilla Greer Statement by Wm Heard certifies he believes he is the said Aquilla Greer Jr. and is the age above stated. Another affadavit by Joesph C Beckham in 1853 that Wm. Heard was acting J.P. at the time and on this page is written 167.40 June 3, 1853 Aquilla Greer Jr. Another application by Aquilla Greer for more land under act March 3, 1850, he had received 80 acres under former application but had legally transferred it. This application is made in the County of Spalding 17th March A.D. 1855, he is now 59 years old and he is a resident of Pike He again signs his name, but his signature is wobbley. 2. Declaration of Surviving soldier For Pension Act of February 14, 1871 State Of Illinois White County On the 8 th day of April A.D. one thousand eighteen hundred and seventy one personally appeared before me John D. Martin , Clerk of the Circuit Court of White County Ill a court for record within and for the County and State aforesaid Aquilla Greer, Jr. age 80, resident of the said county and state who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is married that his wife's name is Lavinia McGhee and he was m. at White County, Ill. on the 18 of November 1866 that he served the full period of sixty days in the Military service of the United States in the war of 1812 and that he is the identical Aquilla Greer, Jr. who enlisted in Captain Brownings Company in a Georgia Regiment No. or name unknown Brigade , unknown division at Greensborough Green County in the state of Georgia This man signs by a mark Aquilla X Greer, Jr. Apparently this man had also previously gotten two land warrants and then applied later for a pension in which he discovered that other records stated that he was Aquilla , Jr. and he and his wife, Lavinia McGhee continued to refer to him as Aquilla, Jr. This Aquilla was on the 1850 White County Ill census with his first wife, Elizabeth Welch. He could not sign his name. He was then in Hamilton Co,II where he died ca 1880.
