This company was originally Co. I, 6th Regiment Ga. State Troops. Term of service six months. The only roll of this company on file in Washington, D.C. is the muster-in roll dated May 7, 1862. In the absence of official records, there are probably many inaccuracies on this roll, which was made by members of the company many years after the war. In most instances the words "Surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina," were added to roll by members of the company. Co. I 6th first enlised under Dr. Thomas O. Heard as Captain for 6 months. About a week after they went into service, Dr. Heard was promoted from Captain to Lieutenant-Colonerl and A.B. Mallary from 1st Lietuenant to Captain. At the expiration of the 6 months, the Company was organized as Co I under John F. Lewis as Captain in the 32nd Reg . ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
