H. Cauthen, who finally moved to Birmingham, Ala., where they lived until some time ago, when marital relations between the couple became estranged an separation followed. By a court decree the only child was given to its mother. This was not to Cauthen's liking, so a few weeks ago he came to Pike county whence his wife had returned, and with force of arms and malice aforethought took the child and left without knowledge or consent of its mother and natural guardian. He was spirited to Vaughan, on the Carrollton branch of the Central of Georgia railway in an effort to retrace his course to Birmingham. But alas, he reckoned without his host, to wit: Sheriff Slade, like the sly fox that he is in ferreting out prisoners and crime, had the constabulary at Carrollton posted, who politely took the gentlemen in and entertained him until the sheriff of Pike escorted him back to the place of his evil conduct and gave him lodgement in Hotel Pike until some friends gave bond for him, much to his personal gratification. The sequel: The child was happily restored to its mother, amid rejoicing and thanksgiving.
