Before the execution he made confession that he did kill Lillie Bell Davis, for which crime he was executed. He also confessed that he had killed a white man with an ax at Lake Butler, Fla., some time ago when he entered a house for the purpose of robbery, getting $20.00 from the person of the white man. He also said he knocked a white woman in the head but did not know whether or not he killed her. He also said he knocked a woman in the head in LaGrange, Ga., but did not know the result. He also killed a negro in Alabama. Also acknowledged that he had assaulted an old negro woman in Barnesville a few months ago - a short time before he killed Lillie Belle Davis. Sheriff Allen, H.E. White, Bradley Wood, W.M. Marsh, J.A. Sharp were present at the execution. Also G.T. McDowell, father of the woman murdered; her husband and one or two other colored men were present. We feel that the interest manifested in this trial in behalf of the colored people by Hon. Wm. E.H. Searcy, Judge; Col. E.M. Owen, Solicitor-General; Mr. D.S. Allen, Sheriff; Mr. J.S. Dunn, Mr. Robert Pilkinton and a score of other white people which space will not allow us to mention their names is beyond comparison with any section of the country, north or south.
