Barnesville Gazette, Thursday, February 26, 1885 February 26, 1885

We clip the following from the Atlanta Constitution of last Friday. J.W.B. 
Reid has filed a suit for divorce against his wife Mattie M. Reid, nee Mattie 
M. Pound. They were married on the 3d of November 1880 in Pike county, but now 
live in Fulton. They separated in the 16th of February and the extraordinary 
part of the proceeding is that the husband alleges cruel treatment on the part 
of the wife. This is quite a reversal of the usual order of things. The 
husband says his wife treated him in a way that was intolerably cruel, cursing 
and abusing him and striking and beating him with anything that happened to be 
handy. The pair have two children, Willie aged three and Elmo aged a year and 
a half.

John Wesley B. Reid, Jr. was born in Pike County, Georgia. He was married 1st 
to Rose Williams on 08 November 1870 in Spalding County, Georgia
