Dr. J.E. Hemphill

The Atlanta Georgian recently contained the following interesting about Dr. 
J.E. Hemphill, a son of Rev. W.P. Hemphill, late of this county. Dr. Hemphill 
is a brother of Mrs. D.P. Blake, of Concord, and of two other brothers in the 
second district.

“There will be a grand rally and welcome service held at the Barnett branch of 
the First Presbyterian church on Sunday evening at 7:30 o’clock for the 
purpose of officially welcoming Dr. J. Edwin Hemphill who has recently 
accepted the call of the First Presbyterian church to supply this field for 
the coming year.

“Services at the First church will be dispensed in the evening, in order that 
the pastor and the people may unite in the welcome rally. Dr. W.L. Lingle, of 
the First church, will be followed by an address from Mr. Bachman, after which 
Mr. Hemphill will make a few remarks on the general work for the coming year. 
The musical program of the evening promises to be very interesting and 
impressive.

“Mr. Hemphill has just completed a very successful college course at Davidson 
College, where he won many honors and the admiration of every student in 
college. He has many friends not only throughout this state but in the two 
Carolinas and over the South, will be glad to know of the great success of his 
present work. Mr. Hemphill is one of the youngest men to be called to such a 
responsible position.
