(Dad) Davis, was tried last Monday at a special term of the Pike Superior court, for the murder of Lillie Belle Davis (colored). Davis was found guilty by jury and sentenced to be electrocuted January 13, 1928. There was a very large crowd of people on hand to hear the trial, much interest being felt in the case on account of the brutal nature of the killing. The Davis woman was killed near her home on November 28th while traveling a path from her home to the home of her sister. Fuller, who had been in the community about two months, disappeared that night. He was traced to Barnesville and captured a few miles from that place. The circumstantial evidence against him was strong and besides he made a confession to the officers that he killed the Davis woman. His only defense was that he had been an inmate of the Alabama State Insane Asylum and at times he was not responsible for his acts. He claims that his home is in Alexander City, Ala. He was represented by Cols. R.C. Johnson and F.L. Adams by appointment of the court.
