February 22, 1907 George Brown Shoots Harvey Crouch, Killing Him Instantly Wednesday morning about 7 o’clock George Brown shot and killed Harvey Crouch. The killing occurred in Brown’s yard, who lives near Flat Shoals on the Meriwether side, Crouch having gone there a short time before. It seems from the best information obtainable that there was a difference between them about some land, which gave rise to the trouble. Crouch called to see Brown and in a short time the trouble occurred. Crouch was shot at six times, four of the shots taking effect in his heart. He died instantly. Both young men are prominent in their community. The deceased is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Crouch well known in this county, a brother of Otis and J.H. Crouch and a nephew of R.F. Strickland, of Griffin, also a nephew of J.W., W.A. and G.E. Strickland, of Concord. He leaves a wife and one child. His wife was a Miss Estes, daughter of Mr. Nat Estes, of Senoia. The affair is most unfortunate and the many friends of the relatives feel for them. The deceased was buried yesterday. (Transcribed 6/7/06 Lynn Ballard Cunningham) Additional Comments: Harvey Crouch’s mother was Mary Lavonia Strickland, his grandparents were Isaac and Mary Hartsfield Strickland.
