It is about three quarters of a mile long and the surface is covered with little white flat rocks. Griffin, which is twenty miles off can be seen. It is a grand sight to get up there and look over the country spread out below. There are quite a number of Indian graves upon it, some of them covered with rock mounds. One of the has a rock mound built of beautiful small flint rock, about thirty feet in diameter, which shows even the care of the red man for his dead. The desire for filthy lucre possessed some one, recently to such an extent that one of these rock toombs were removed and the ashes of the long buried savage, stirred to find something valuable. But the hope was a vain one, and the effort resulted in failure. The opened grave was left to demonstrate the desecration even by the so called civilized of our age. From the number of these graves upon this mountain, I am led to believe there must have been many a sad hearted Indian on Buzzard Mountain in the years long ago. There is a spring away up on the mountain that affords excellent water and wells at the base, not known to the savage. This mountain gets its name from the fowl that succeeds the Indian, as many of them build nests up there and raise their young. Wild turkeys also rove over it and a day of hunting can be spent pleasantly. The proprietor will fix up the water advantages for summer, and it may yet be a Mecca for the invalid in summer. - F File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/pike/newspapers/lifseyss446nnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/gafiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
