Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, Jan. 31, 1896 Tax Collector Carriker gave us a call Monday. He reports Mrs. Nancy Scoggin quite ill at his home. She is Mrs. Carriker's mother and is noted as one of the most pious women in the county. She is now in her 92nd year. Eresypelas [Erysipelas],* or something of that nature is the cause of her illness. (Transcribed 11/17/02 Lynn Cunningham) Note: Contagious skin disease, due to Streptococci.
