Boyt, 102 year old Confederate Army veteran and St. Augustine’s oldest citizen, died peacefully here Wednesday at his home. He would have been 103 next January 27. Mr. Boyt was born in Barnesville, Georgia. At the age of seven, he came to Florida with his family. He was only 16 when he enlisted in the Confederate Army at Ocala, Fla., serving in the Infantry. Following the war, he lived at Ocala until 1890 and then moved to Fernandina. He came to St. Augustine in 1920. Despite his age, Mr. Boyt remained active until a fall a year ago confined him to his home. Always proud of having served with the “Army of the Gray,” he retained many memories of the South’s struggle and credited his long life to "clean living." Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. B.M. Hall, Sr., Miss Pauline Boyt and Mrs. J.S. Butterfield, all of St. Augustine; a son, Robert, of Oakland, Cal., five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
