Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia The following, in reference to a fight between two of Pike’s well-known citizens, appeared in the Griffin News and Sun of Wednesday: A one round fight without rules and without gloves occurred yesterday morning about 9 o’clock between P.C. Shivers and Buster Tolan. The difficulty was a continuation of a feud of long standing and was brought about by the passage of the word “he” between the contestants. Although no weapons, save nature’s own were used, the resulting damage was something extraordinary. Both parties were considerably mauled. The police raided the place where the fight was held and Shivers was captured and gave bond. Tolan leg-bailed himself and escaped arrest. Later in the day Tolan came in and gave bond. The affair is regretted by friends of both parties. (Transcribed 08/07/03 Lynn Cunningham) Additional Comments: This was Patrick Coldwell Shivers (who was married to Effie Janie Carden) and Albert Huel Tolan (who was married to Nancy Greene). At the time of the fight Patrick was about 42 and Buster was about 25. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.6 Kb
