Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia When on the 31st of May the life of Mrs. Mary W. Driver came to a close, the world was made infinitely poorer, friends felt an irreparable loss to say nothing of the bereft, sad-hearted relatives. Mrs. Driver was better known in Pike Co., as “Aunt Mary,” so called because of her tender devotion to the sick and her kind and encouraging words to those in trouble. She united herself with the Missionary Baptist church in early life and was devoted to its every interest. She was modest and shrinking to the degree of a child, yet evading no church duty. The Golden Rule seemed to be one of the tents [sp] of her life - never even an uncharitable remark did she make of anyone, but rather ever ready to hold up the hand of the oppressed and discouraged. She was first married to Mr. James Lee in 1860, who lost his life in the Civil War. Afterwards she married Mr. Giles Driver who has also preceded this good woman to the grave. In all the relations of life she was patient, cheerful and faithful. In this brief and altogether inadequate sketch it is impossible to do justice to this noble woman. She died as she had lived; just quietly passed away. Could all who loved her have placed a garland on her grave her ashes would have rested beneath a mountain of flowers. While the sad thought comes to us that she is dead and that we will not see her again in this life, yet we look forward to the resurrection morn, and we know then that the meeting will more than make up for the parting and the welcome kiss will obliterate the good-bye. - A Friend (Transcribed 08/26/03 Lynn Cunningham) This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
