Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia Robert Patton Killed Wednesday night at Blanton’s Mill about twelve miles from here Robert Patton was shot and instantly killed by Forest McNorton. Patton is about 25 years of age and a good farmer. McNorton is from Indiana and is not well known in this section. Robert Patton and his brother Tom were fishing at the mill crossing it is said, Robert being on one side of the stream and Tom on the other. McNorton and Lum Cannady who had been to Brooks Station came by about midnight in a buggy, saw young Patton standing in the bushes in a few feet of the bridge and McNorton asked who it was. Patton made no reply. McNorton drew his pistol and told him he would make him talk, opened fire and the ball took effect just below the heart, death resulting instantly. The men in the buggy drove across the bridge and went on a mile further when Cannady went back to see if Patton had been hurt. Tom Patton it appears was not aware that his brother has been killed and this discovery was made some forty minutes after the tragedy was enacted. Many are of the opinion that the deed was perpetrated with out any provocation and much indignation is expressed.
