Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia Ordinary Means has been quite busy this week handing out and sending out checks for the old soldiers and soldiers widows. Nearly $8000 will be paid to soldiers and their widows. There are sixty-two old vets that get sixty dollars each, thirty seven widows who draw sixty dollars each and 29 vets who get fifty dollars each, two who get thirty dollars each, one that gets ten dollars and one that gets five dollars. Uncle Jessie Adams was in the city Tuesday and drew his pension. He was all smiles with his whiskers plaited as tight as the Chinese pig tail. He bought him a new pair of boots and is now ready to do anybody’s ditching that will pay him for the same. He says that he never saw but one man that could beat him ditching and he was an Irishman who could do more work in soft dirt than himself but when it came to rough work, he couldn’t beat him.
