George Allen Arrested; Murder is Charged Sheriff J.H. Milner Wednesday evening arrested George Allen, a well known citizen of Piedmont, and placed him in jail here charged with the murder of George H. Warthen on May 19th. Since the murder it is said the circumstances have been pointing to Allen as the perpetrator of the deed, but not until Wednesday did the evidence seen sufficient enough to authorize his arrest. Detectives have been at work on the case and it is said now that the proof that will be submitted is abundant and convincing beyond any doubt. Allen is a middle aged man and belongs to a well-known family, who have long lived in that section of this county. He is very reserved in conversation and manner and since the murder has been at his home there. While the coroner’s inquest was being held, he was one of the many visitor’s present and circulated among the crowd, apparently as disinterested as anyone else, awaiting the developments that might be brought out by evidence. The exact fact on which his arrest was made are not known to the public, but it is generally agreed that circumstances as known point to his guilt. The coroner’s jury failed to place the blame on any one, but this did not meet the approval of the Warthen family and Detectives Connally and Scarlet were secured. They went to work on the case in earnest and state that they have secured enough evidence to convict Allen. If they have, they will secure three hundred dollars reward offered by the governor and three hundred by the family of the deceased. Ann Frambro, a negress, was arrested as an accessory to the crime. Allen and the Frambro woman will employ counsel and have a commitment trial here Monday or Tuesday. About fifty witnesses will be on hand to testify.
