Pope, was painfully injured Thursday afternoon as she walked up No. 3 highway, returning from her duties at the home of Mr. Pope, when an automobile, driven by Mr. Kyle Williams, of Thomaston skidded and turned around on the pavement striking her on the right leg. Mr. Williams stated that he was driving toward Zebulon from Thomaston at a moderate rate and attempted to go around a car coasting down the Pope Hill, after turning to go around the car he saw the woman walking up the road and put on his brakes in an effort to avoid running over her when his car began to skid on the wet pavement turning completely around, striking the woman with the rear fender, knocking her down and cutting a severe gash in her right leg. The car skidded on into the ditch. Sheriff Shackleford, after investigation held Mr. Williams on a charge of driving an automobile while under the influence of whiskey.
