Pike County, Journal
Zebulon, GA., Friday, April 10, 1891

Dr. John McDowell, a prominent young physician of Macon died at the home
of his mother in Barnesville last Sunday. He was a son of the late Dr.
George McDowell, and a brother of P.H. McDowell, a telegraph operator at
Griffin. From a physician who was well acquainted with the deceased, we
learn that his death was due to cigarette smoking.
