Whitaker Kills Himself Robt. Whitaker, who lives just across the river in Meriwether county, committed suicide last Friday about sundown by hanging himself. We have not learned the cause of the rash act. Mr. Whitaker was a man of, perhaps, thirty-five years. He was married in this county to a most estimable lady - the sister of Dr. J.B. and E.D. Matthews - and has lived in this county up to this year making his home at Concord. Mr. Whitaker was a carpenter by trade, and helped to build the depot at this place. He leaves a wife and six or seven children. (Transcribed 10/15/02 Lynn Cunningham) Note: At Hebron Cemetery In Pike County: Robert O.F. Whitaker, b. 1848, d. 27 Sept 1889
