H. Martin Dead Mr. W.H. Martin, for many years an honored and respected citizen of this county, later of Statenville, Echols county, died last Sunday. His remains were entered [sp] in Echols county, where two of his children were buried. Mr. Martin had been in very feeble health for several years, and it was known when he left Pike with his family last winter that he could not live much longer. He retained a cheerful spirit, however, amid his sickness and participated heartily in the pleasant social conversations which took place in his presence. He was a true man and had many friends, besides a large number of relatives, in this immediate section, who have learned with genuine sorrow of his death. To Mrs. Martin and her children we tender specially our sympathy in the loss of one so near and dear to them. (Transcribed 10/30/02 Lynn Cunningham)
