The weapon used was a shot gun and Ballard was shot through the heart. The particulars of the tragedy are meager and it is not known what caused the trouble. Ballard was a prominent farmer and leaves a wife and three children. Parker is also a well known planter of Pike county and has a wife and two children. On Tuesday morning Parker, the alleged slayer of Ballard, voluntarily surrendered to the officers of Pike and was placed in jail at Zebulon to await trial, either at a preliminary hearing or at the regular term of court. Mr. Ballard's remains were laid to rest in the McKinley burying ground in Pike county Tuesday afternoon.
