Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, March 20, 1908 Rev. J.W. Beck Died in Florida Col. J.W. Beck, who was well known throughout middle Georgia died at his daughter’s home in Florida Tuesday night after a several week’s illness. He had been in bad health for several years having suffered a stroke of paralysis a few years back. He was a resident of Zebulon for a number of years and served the Zebulon Baptist church as its pastor for twelve years. He also served the Baptist churches at Concord, Milner and Mt. Olive. He was a an uncle of Mrs. W.A. Strickland, of Concord, with whom he lived for several years and the father of Judge Marcus W. Beck of the supreme court and formerly judge of the Flint Circuit. He taught school at Milner and Concord for several years and was well and favorably known throughout this part of the state. He was colonel of the fourth [should be Forty-fourth] Ga. Regiment serving with distinction through the civil war. His remains were buried in Jackson, his old home, yesterday morning.
