J.W. Beck Was Buried At Jackson On Yesterday He Was a Prominent Minister and Educator, and Was a Gallant Confederate Soldier Jackson, Ga., March 20. - (Special) - Rev. J.W. Beck was buried here Thursday from the Baptist church. The remains reached here early this morning from Florida, and were accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. R.A. Ellis, at whose home he died, and his son, Walter L. Beck, of Chicago, and were met here by his son, Judge Marcus W. Beck, of Atlanta. Professor Beck, as he was called by the people here, where he lived many years as pastor of the Baptist church, and principal of the school, was greatly admired and loved throughout this section. He was a man of giant intellect. As a Christian minister he was greatly beloved, and as a confederate soldier with the army of northern Virginia has an enviable record. He was elected captain of his company. He was promoted to major, and again promoted to Lieutenant colonel of the Forty-fourth Georgia regiment. He was with the army of northern Virginia in its notable battles, excepting the second Manassas and Sharpsburg - he having been severely wounded at Malvern Hill. He remained in the army until the last day at Appomattox.
