Ballard James Polk Ballard died at his home in Zebulon Sunday morning. He had been in bad health for several months and his death has been expected at any time during the last month. He was born in 1842 [?] and had lived in Zebulon since 1867. He was married to Miss Kittie Avery in 1870, she dying in 1888. Four children were born to them, Misses Eva, Mary Will, Mrs. Louie Foster, and Miss Essie. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F.W. McCleskey, after which he was buried in the Methodist cemetery. The town and community feel for the daughters and extend them sympathy. (Transcribed by Lynn Ballard Cunningham 9/7/02)
