Crawford Sr., 76, a Union county state representative for 27 years and an active member of state and local veteran organization activities, died unexpectedly at 2:40 p.m. yesterday. He was enroute to a local hospital after suffering a heart attack at his home, 801 N. Jefferson ave. Past state commander of the Spanish American War Veterans, Mr. Crawford was serving his 33rd year as the American Legion state sergeant at arms. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war and World War I. He was born in Barnesville, Ga., Jan. 2, 1877, the son of Dan and Mary Howard Crawford, and moved here in 1881. He was a member of the First Baptist church; El Dorado lodge No. 13 F and AM; and was a 32D degree Mason, and a member of the Roy V. Kinard post No. 10, American Legion. Mr. Crawford was in the state militia and national guard for 33 years. Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Sallie Milner Crawford; two daughters, Mrs. R.W. Bellew, Cedar Rapids, Ia., and Mrs. Louis Pratt, El Dorado; a son, Sam D. Crawford Jr., El Dorado; a brother, Dan H. Crawford, El Dorado; five grandchildren, Dickie and David Bellew, Buddy Pratt, Richard Crawford and Sam D. Crawford III. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the First Baptist church with the pastor, the Rev. Sam C. Reeves, officiating. Interment will be in the Arlington cemetery under the direction of Hall mortuary, and military services will be conducted at the graveside by the Roy V. Kinard post No. 10. American Legion. The body will be taken to the family residence at 9:30 a.m. today. Pall bearers will be Robert Hightower, Dr. Jack Sheppard, Edmund Mahony, Beryl Anthony, Joe Wepfer, Bert Walker, Marshal Shackleford Jr., Bruce Anthony, Carl Griffin Jr., and Charles Griffin. Honorary pallbearers will be members of: the Men’s Bible class of the First Baptist church: Roy V. Kinard post NO. 10; Spanish American War veterans; and El Dorado lodge No. 13 F and AM.
