Though deaths are of frequent occurrence, there are few that caused more profound sorrow than the death of Mr. H. J. Cannafax, of Weaver Ga; which occurred Oct. 7th 1901. It is so sad to have those whom we love go from us at any time, but to have them taken in the prime of life, when the enthusiasm of youth is happily blended with the discretion of age while the natural strength is unabated and the eye undimmed, and life is gathering its richest fruit and its richest harvest, this is the greatest loss in the history of an earthly home. The light of our friend was extinguished while it was yet day. He was still in the midst of his usefulness, and no premonitions pointed out the untimely end. The summons came, and the end was peaceful. We morn not as those who morn without hope. Brother Cannafax, a native of Pike County, was born Nov.15, 1857. He was happily married to Miss Americus Berry, Nov. 22,1882. one child was born of this union. Both mother and child preceded him to " ! the better country." His second marriage, which occurred Sept. 11th 1884, was to Miss Mattie Bush, five children was born to them, four of whom are yet alive. May the widows friend and the orphans God, care for both mother and children in this their greatest grief. Brother Cannafax was a man of strong convictions and a keen sense of right and duty. He had a contempt for every low, mean or sordid. He was warm hearted and genial, yet very retireing in disposition. He enjoyed the companionship of friends, and made it pleasant and agreeable for them to be with him. He was in every respect a most lovable man. Conscious almost to the last, he calmly and peacefully entered into rest, leaving his loved ones sweet evidence of his readiness to depart. ================================================== Pike Co Journal, Submitted by Joe Cannafax, JRCannafax@aol.com Mrs. Mattie Cannafax died at her home near Zebulon Thursday after a very short illness.
