Drewry Died in Williamson Impressive funeral services for Mr. Ferdinand Sylvester Drewry, 90-year-old Pike county Confederate Veteran, were conducted from the Williamson Christian church Saturday. The body lay in state for an hour before the funeral. Rev. John Lambert, pastor, and Rev. Charles B. Holder, pastor of the First Christian church of Griffin, officiated. Burial was in the Williamson Baptist churchyard with Haisten Brothers, funeral directors, in charge. Pallbearers were C. S. and M. E. Yarbrough, C. P. Scott, Howard Connell, Ray Dickinson, Jr., and Ed Wood. The Spalding Grays had charge of military services at the graveside. Mr. Drewry died late Thursday night at his home in Williamson, following a brief illness. He entered the War Between the States at the age of 15 and served with distinction throughout. Born in Fayette county, he was in Spalding, but moved to Pike in 1873 to make his home. He taught school for many years. On Dec. 2, 1869, he was married to Miss Rebecca Halsey. He was a charter member of the Williamson Christian church, and was an elder in the church for half a century. He was justice of the peace in his community for 40 years, and only retired in recent years. He was a widely known retired farmer. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Belle Dickinson, of Williamson; and two sons, T.E. Drewry, of Williamson, and Will Drewry, of Atlanta.
