Green Drowns Mr. Gilbon H. Green was drowned in Flint River last Friday afternoon about four o'clock. A party of friends that morning left for the river to go seining and Mr. Green with them, all of them friends and neighbors from the Second District. He and a friend were crossing the river with a seine and in some manner, when they reached deep water he was caught in the seine and soon sunk before assistance could reach him. There was quite a number of them on the river at them time but they were scattered. His body was soon fished out and brought to Hollonville and Mr. P. M. Sullivan went from here in car and brought it to Jim Buchanan's with whom he lived. He was drowned not two hundred feet from where Clarke McGahee was drowned some 15 years ago. The deceased was about 40 years old and well thought of by all who knew him. His parents are both dead but he has a brother and sister in Texas. He was a member of Flat Rock Primative church where his funeral was preached Saturday by Elder J. A. Wright in the presence of a large crowd of friends. The whole community was shocked and grieved to hear of his untimely death. He had many friends who sympathize with his relatives. Additional Comments: Gilbin was the son of Franklin DeKalb Green and Sarah Melissa Smith Green. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
