W. Langford Held Here Saturday George W. Langford, one of the most beloved residents of Lamar County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. M. Smith, near Goggins last Friday afternoon, March 29. Final rites were conducted from the First Baptist Church in Barnesville Saturday afternoon, Dr. L. S. Williams, pastor, was assisted in officiating by the Rev. J. S. Wynne, pastor of Cherokee Heights Baptist Church of Macon, and the Rev. Harry V. Smith, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Forsyth. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Langford, a native of Pike County, had made his home in Barnesville and Lamar County for years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnesville and was a faithful attendant until he became ill several years ago. He served as Justice of the Peace here for many years, and was engaged in farming for a long period of time. He was held in high esteem by a host of friends throughout this section. Mr. Langford would have reached the age of 88 on April 4, 1940. Among survivors are two daughters, Mrs. A.P. Middlebrooks of Atlanta, and Mrs. S. M. Smith; five sons, Emmett of Barnesville and Griffin, Otis of Campbellton, Fla., Marvin of Heflin, Ala.; Grady and Alvin Langford of Meansville; twenty-three grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren.
