Harris webmaster@theharrislegacy.com May 6, 2004, 10:02 pm Barnesville News-Gazette July 1921 IN MEMORIAM While we were surrounded by all the pleasures and beauties of springtime and our souls were made to rejoice in the sweet music of the songs of birds and while everything in nature seems to fill our hearts with supreme delight, and before us lay life’s beauty and hope-in the midst of these conditions we were brought face to face with death. On May 2, our dear, beloved sister, Susan R. Harris (nee Harden) peacefully as a child in sleep, departed this life at the age of 78 years, two months and 15 days. Sister Harris professed faith in Christ in her girlhood and united with Friendship Baptist church. When New Hope church was organized she came in as a charter member, and was since the organization of this church till death, she was a faithful, consistent, loyal member. Sister Harris was married to H.C. Harris January 3, 1867. To this union seven children were born. These seven children and husband all survive, and mourn the going of their mother and wife. The children are Dr. J.C. Harris of Colliers, Ga., T.B. Harris. Milner, R. F.D.., Mrs. Fannie Wilson, of Barnesville R.F.D.; Mrs. Jennie Ballard of Milner R.F.D.; W.C. Harris of Milner R.F.D.; Mrs. Thomas Weaver of Zebulon, R.F.D.; Mrs. W.D. Cauthen of Milner, R.F.D., all respected citizens who rise up to call this sainted mother blessed and are a consolation to the bereaved husband and father. Yes, Sister Harris is greatly missed by all who knew her. That vacancy in the home and the church may never be filled. But while we fully realize all this we do not think of this mother as dead, but truly living in soul with disimboded spirits, awaiting the resurrection of body. The time will soon come when husband and sons and daughters if prepared as mother was, will all reunite, nor death never come. She is gone but not forgotten, Never will her memory fade, Sweeter thoughts will ever linger Around the grave where she is laid It is sad to part with love ones, And so hard to see them die, But we trust some day to meet them In that home beyond the sky. There the pearly gates were opened, And a gentle voice said “come” And with sad farewells unspoken She has safely entered home. Oh, we loved her, yes we loved her, But the Saviour loved her more, So the Angels, sweetly called her To that bright and happy shore. This memorium is written by orders in conference of New Hope Baptist Church and is but a slight testimony of our deep love for this good woman, and an expression of sympathy and love to Brother H.C. Harris and his children in the sorrow of the going of his life companion and mother of the children. A copy of this memorium is to be spread upon our minutes and record of the church, a copy be furnished the Barnesville News-Gazette, also a copy to members of the family. Approved in Conference, this July 2, 1921 Chas. E. Hitt, Moderator, Mrs. Chas. E. Hitt, Committee. W.A. Ross, Clerk of Church. Additional Comments: Typo-Dr. J.C. Harris was from Collins Ga not Colliers. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 3.6 Kb
