Howell Mr. W.E. Howell died at his home yesterday afternoon at four o’clock after an illness of four months. His death had been expected almost ever since he was taken sick, being seriously and dangerously ill all the while. He has been shown every attention possible since he took his bed, all being done that could be for him. Mr. Howell was born and lived in this county all of his life being about 53 years of age at the time of his death. He leaves a good faithful wife and four children and a large number of brothers and sisters to mourn his death. He was married to Miss Washa Willis Dec. 18, 1879 and four children survive him, namely, Mrs. A.D. Williams of Yatesville, Edgar, Homer, and a little boy Charlie, five years old. His death is the first in family of eleven children, seven sisters and brothers, viz. Mrs. Marshall, of Gay; Mrs. Bowden and Mrs. Langford of Ala.; Mrs. Rucker of Barnesville; Mrs. Calloway of Sunny Side; Mrs. Story of Lifsey; Mrs. S.S. Barrett of Lifsey and Mr. J.H. Howell of Zebulon; Mr. S.A. Howell of Lifsey and Mr. C.D. Howell of Thomaston, Sheriff of Upson county. Mr. Howell was a devoted and affectionate husband and father, a good citizen and an excellent neighbor. The funeral exercises occur this afternoon at the Baptist church at three o’clock, to be conducted by Rev. T.S. Edwards, and he will be buried in the baptist cemetery here. Friends of his and the family extend sincere sympathy in their sad hour of bereavement. (Transcribed by Lynn Ballard Cunningham 9/6/02)
