Unadilla Pastor Taken by Death
Rev. John Oscar McKinley Reaches Age of 74 years; Wife Died Two Years Ago

Unadilla, Ga., Dec. 29 – Rev. John Oscar McKinley, 74, died at the home of his 
daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. D. P. Holloman, at 11 o’clock Thursday 
morning. He was ordained a Baptist minister in 1907. He was one of the best 
known citizens of this community.

Rev. Mr. McKinley was a son of Midas Leroy and Mary McKinley, and was born near 
Zebulon, Ga., Sept. 12, 1858.

In 1881, he was married to Miss Julia Bassett, daughter of Elder John Bassett, 
of Houston County. All of their 49 years of wedlock was spent near Byrun and in 
Unadilla, having come here to live in 1907.

Wife Dies First

Since the death of his wife in 1930, he had been in declining health. Two weeks 
ago his condition became grave, and he failed to respond to any medical aid.

He is survived by seven children, J. M., proprietor of the Chevrolet company, 
Unadilla; C. C., of Vienna; B. F., of Perry; Mrs. G. C. Rogers, Uniontown, 
Ala.; Mrs. W. J. Crocker, Dunnellen, Fla.; O.B., of Bradenton, Fla.; Mrs. D. P. 
Holloman, Unadilla, Ga., and two brothers, E. J. of Zebulon, and W. L., of 
Pitts; one sister, Mrs. M. C. Greene, Zebulon, Ga.; 26 grandchildren and 
several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted from the Unadilla Baptist church with 
intermittent in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
