Mr. John Milner Dies At Advanced Age After Long Illness

Mr. John Milner, an aged and beloved citizen and really a pioneer in the
civilization and progress of Pike county, died at the home of his sons, Messrs.
R.A. and Dick Milner, two miles west of Concord, last Saturday, after a long and
tedious illness. In fact, he had been in more or less feeble health for ten
years, during which time he had received the constant and solicitous devotion
and attention of his family. While he had been quite feeble, his death came
somewhat unexpectedly and the spirit which had been bound so long peacefully
took its flight from its home in the flesh and went to its home beyond the skies.

The funeral and burial occurred Sunday afternoon at the family cemetery at the
old Milner homestead three miles beyond Zebulon. Rev. J.W.R. Jenkins conducted
the services at the grave where had assembled a large concourse of friends who
had met to join in paying tribute to the beloved dead and respect to the
bereaved family.

Mr. Milner was born January 10, 1831, so that he was just past 79 years old,
having all his life resided in the Concord community. In 1853 he married Miss
Nannie Boughland, who survives him, he and his brother, the late George Milner,
having married sisters.

To them were born three daughters and ten sons, the following of whom are now
living: Miss Lillie Milner, Mrs. J.C. Irwin, both at Concord, Mrs. Effie Arnold
at Brunswick, R.B., R.A., Jesse and Emmet Milner at Concord, Judson and Eddie
Milner in the west, John Milner in south Georgia and Wyley Milner in Atlanta.
Mr. Milner was a devout Christian, being a member of the Baptist church. In all
his conduct of life he was honorable and upright and was recognized as a
genuinely good man, an excellent neighbor and a husband and father who held the
integrity and honor of his family almost above everything else.

The people of the entire county extend deepest sympathy to Mrs. Milner, the
faithful and sorrowing life-companion, and to all the other members of the family.
