Robert Mitchell, aged 68 years, died last night at 6:30 o’clock at a private sanitarium. The body is at Barclay & Brandon’s chapel and will be taken Saturday to his home at Barnesville, Ga., for funeral and interment. He was a Confederate veteran and belonged to Wheeler’s cavalry. He lived in Pike County nearly all his life. Surviving him are his wife, five daughters and two sons, W.H. Mitchell, of Barnesville, and Dr. George M. Mitchell, of Jacksonville, Fla. Also: Robert Mitchell Dies at Barnesville Home Barnesville, Ga., May 22. – (Special.) Robert Mitchell, a confederate veteran, one of the most universally beloved citizens of Pike County, died Thursday night after an illness of several months. The funeral and burial will occur here tomorrow morning. Mr. Mitchell was a stock dealer and farmer, and was one of the wealthiest men in this section of the state. His father was at one time an extensive holder of Atlanta real estate, and Mitchell street there was named in his honor. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, two sons, W.H. Mitchell, of this city, and Dr. George M. Mitchell, of Jacksonville, Fla., and five daughters, Miss Mamie Mitchell, Mrs. B.H. Hardy, Mrs. John T. Middlebrooks, Miss Lillian Mitchell and Miss Lucille Mitchell. Robert’s wife was Elizabeth Milner. Her grandfather was the Reverend John Holmes Milner, a notable preacher of Pike County and surrounding areas.
