Mrs. Newton was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. She was one of the organizers of the Lifsey Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Daniel and Rev. Clarence Denny officiating with burial in South View Cemetery (Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia). Mrs. Newton is survived by her husband, William R. (Red) Newton, two sons, William R. (Bill) Newton Jr., and David Wayne Newton, both of Lifsey Springs, mother, Mrs. Elizabeth S. Day of Lifsey Springs, a sister, Mrs. Caroline Goodrow of Woodstock; three brothers, Kenneth A. Day of Puyallup, Washington, Ray L. Day of Jonesboro, and Michael D. Day of Knoxville, Tenn. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.] The Pike County Journal extends sympathy to the family.
