Mrs. Sara Oxford

Mrs. Sara Oxford, one of Concord’s oldest citizens, died Saturday afternoon at 
2:30 o’clock at the age of 77 years.

Mrs. Oxford was the widow of the late Mr. W.B. [A.B] Oxford. She was reared in 
Concord and has lived there all her life and through her genial disposition 
and willingness to aid others had won for herself hundreds of friends who 
attested their love for her with the beautiful floral offerings.

Mrs. Oxford is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. Paul Dunn; Mrs. Ed Beckham 
and one son, Mr. Grady Oxford; two sisters, Mrs. W.T.D. Oxford, of Atlanta, 
and Mrs. J.H. Smith, Zebulon.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Oxford Sunday afternoon at 3:30 with her 
pastor, Rev. T.J. Espy, officiating. Interment followed in the Old Hebron 
cemetery with R.F. Strickland Co., in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Jane Montgomery, daughter of Joseph R. Montgomery and Sarah Elizabeth 
Strickland, was married to Alonzo Burke Oxford on 25 December 1878 in Pike 
County.
